Dear ACCESS Community,
We’ve come so far and we can’t stop now! From our grass roots beginning as a collective of advocates to being a pan-Canadian network of more than 1,000 survivors, families, researchers, clinicians, and community partners, ACCESS has brought our community together to improve the lives and outcomes of children with cancer. With over 50 projects launched spanning cancer biology to survivorship, we are already changing the pediatric cancer landscape.
We know that children with cancer and their families face challenges that go far beyond treatment. They deserve better outcomes, stronger support, and equitable access to care. And new challenges are arising. Canada is currently overly dependent on international sponsors for clinical trials and other advanced treatments. Our clinical research infrastructure is fragile, and our children are vulnerable to political changes in the United States.
ACCESS has started to tackle these challenges. But time is short, and we need continued funding to do the work.
That’s why we’re asking you to join us in raising your voice in support.
Pediatric cancer advocates have made it simple through the Stronger Than cancer website, where you’ll find ready-to-use tools, resources, and messaging.
Raise Awareness: Share pediatric cancer facts and advocacy messages on your social media channels. Use the graphics and posts available on the Stronger Than Cancer site to educate your networks and spark conversation.
Contact Your Member of Parliament: Use the letter templates and advocacy guides provided to reach out directly to your MP. A few minutes of your time can influence decisions that affect countless children and families.
Learn More About ACCESS: At ACCESS for Kids Cancer (https://www.accessforkidscancer.ca/), we’re working to break down barriers so kids and families get the support and treatments they need.
We recognize that each member of the ACCESS community has unique roles, responsibilities, and professional contexts. Please use your judgment to decide what types of advocacy are appropriate for you. Some may feel comfortable engaging publicly on social media, others may focus on direct outreach to elected officials, while others may choose to share information one-on-one with colleagues or family. Every effort matters, and even small actions add up to meaningful change.
Every message shared, every MP contacted, every person informed brings us one step closer to a future where kids with cancer truly have ACCESS.
Thank you for lending your voice, your heart, and your commitment to this movement. Together, we are stronger than cancer.
With gratitude,
Adrienne Co-Dyre
